Received from Assemblyman Matt Wright the day after the letter was sent:

Of course, I am opposed to this and most other tax increases. Remember, I and the legislature have already passed a balanced budget without any tax increases! The Governor killed it by vetoing major portions. He is bent on increasing spending, so he needs to raise taxes! I do not believe we need to increase spending, even though there are some tough cuts going on.

By the way, there is a strong effort going on to point towards liquor/beer, cigarettes, etc. (sin taxes) as the taxes to raise. It would be helpful to me to rally the troops against these taxes. Otherwise you lose the PR game.
